20th October Hitchin v Hillcroft
Archives - 07-08 Mens Firsts

Naz drew the short straw this week and was asked to write a match report. His contribution was rubbish, consisting of about 10 words and so here is a completely unbiased, more lengthy report.

A warm, clear day saw Hillcroft match up against Hitchin at Blueharts hockey club. Hillcroft are a relatively inexperienced side, with lots of now players. Unfortunately, they didn't travel too well, with just 10 players making the journey to Hitchin.

Hitchin started well and dominated the early stages, racing to a 4 - 0 lead before Steve Flint, the Hillcroft goalie managed to score one back for Hillcroft. Two more Hitchin goals followed by the end of the quarter.

The second quarter saw more of the same dominance from Hitchin, the vast majority of the face offs being won by Hitchin. The possession duly converted into points and the teams went into half time with Hitchin leading 13 - 1.

During the third quarter, Hitchin stepped up the tempo sensing that Hillcroft's ten men were tiring. Hitchin scored 5 goals in the quarter to make the score 18-1.

In the final quarter, both teams slowed considerably, Hitchin scored 4 more, with Hillcroft getting a consolation at the end to make the final score 22 - 2. Overall, a good performance from Hitchin's 13 players. The goals were evenly distributed and some solid defence played.

Thanks to Eddie for reffing.
