Final Score: Hitchin 14 - 2 Hillcroft Both Hitchin teams were at home this week and both had an excellent turnout. The first team had 16 players and the second team had 13 - hopefully with a few more players we can start a third team? Also, we had an official league referee which was excellent (the first time ever, for a League match?) The first team faced Hillcroft who have lost quite a few players. Hitchin started well and Hillcroft struggled to get out of their own half although it was a while before Hitchin scored the first goal. Hillcroft were playing a zone defence and Hitchin took a little while to adjust. Quarter time score was 4 - 0 to Hitchin After the break, Hillcroft began to adjust their defensive system, switching from zone to man-on-man. Hitchin's scoring slowed and Hillcroft managed to get off the mark. Half-time score 7 - 1 to Hitchin. During the third quarter Hillcroft's 11 man squad began to tire although their defence remained strong. Hitchin scored 3 to Hillcroft's 1. The highlight was an excellent Hitchin goal involving the whole attack and 4/5 quick passes to leave an easy finish on the crease. 3/4 score 10 - 2 to Hitchin. In the final quarter, Hitchin scored 4 more goals making the final score 14 - 2 to Hitchin. Thanks to Dan Wright for refereeing.
