06/01/07 Bath Away
Final Score: Bath 5 - 19 Hitchin

We woke up for the first match of the new year to miserable conditions at Hitchin. 'Oh well' we thought, 'it'll be better in Bath on the other side of the country'. After driving for 2hrs 30 mins in pouring rain we found that it was raining just as hard in Bath. Thankfully, the rain had almost stopped before the game started although the pitch was very wet and slippery.

Hitchin started well and scored a couple of early goals. Bath managed to fight their way back with a couple of goals from Bath #5. Midway through the quarter, one of the Bath long poles pulled his hamstring and was out for the rest of the match and Rian, the Bath keeper managed a fantastic save when he managed to block Eamon's blistering shot with his box. There was a hollow thudding sound and he sank slowly to the ground. When he reached the floor he grabbed the ball and put it in his stick before curling into the foetal position for a few minutes. When the game resumed Hitchin managed to score a couple more before the break. The first quarter ended 4 - 2 to Hitchin.

After the break, Hitchin stepped up a gear and began to dominate. Hitchin scored 7 goals and Bath got two in reply to leave the half-time score at 11 - 4.

The game slowed dramatically in the third quarter as the pitch began to get more worn. Hitchin could only manage 4 goals and the score was 15 - 4 at 3/4 time.

During the last quarter Hitchin managed to score 4 more gaols and Bath scored a consolation goal to make the final score 19 - 5 to Hitchin.
