21/10/06 Purley Away
Final Score: Purley 6 - 10 Hitchin

Purley scored first after a defensive mixup. Hitchin equalised and then pulled ahead. Purley brought the scores level and the quarter ended 2-all.

Hitchin started well after the break, scoring a couple of quick goals. A big blow was dealt when Eamon, the Hitchin attack LDO twisted his ankle whilst dodging and limped off the pitch. Hitchin's best period of the game followed. Despite going man down for 3 minutes and facing some intense Purley pressure, Hitchin managed to score 2 goals. Hitchin dominated before half time, going 7 - 2 up into the break.

After half time, Hitchin were dealt another blow. Face-off middie, Jim, who had been dominating the faceoffs was hit by a clumsy takeout. The game was halted while Jim was carried off the pitch and an ambulance was called. We're happy to report that Eamon and Jim are both OK, although they will be unable to play for a while.

After the slight delay, Purley stepped up, scoring two goals quickly. Hitchin managed to get one back before Purley scored again. At 3/4 time, the score was 8 - 5 to Hitchin.

In the final quarter, Purley came out hard, and tried to pressure Hitchin. Hitchin responded well and didn't allow Purley back into the game. Several times, the Hitchin defence was able to force turnovers and deny Purley shots on goal. The teams traded 2 goals each to leave the final score 10 - 6 to Hitchin.

All in all, a good result considering that Purley beat Hitchin twice last season. Also, despite losing two very dominant players soon after the halfway point, Hitchin remained fairly comfortable, showing their team strength. Purley did seem to be missing a couple of players Dave Arnot and Denham Pope being two notable absentees.

Hitchin: Joe (GK), Bish, Alex, Dan, Rhod, Jim - 1, Ian - 1, Steve - 3, Eamon, Travis - 1, Jonny - 1, Josh - 3.
