Final Score: Hitchin 'A' 9 - 8 Comets Just before the start of this weeks match both teams observed a minutes' silence to mark Armistice Day. Hitchin 'A' set off at a quick pace and scored 4 goals early on in the 1st quarter. Comets defence stepped up, got their act together and turned the ball around several times. Comets started to attack, had a few shots but lacked the finishing touch. After making a blistering save towards the end of the quarter, Martin suddenly lost control of the ball and scored an own goal. :-( The 2nd quarter saw the Comets go on the attack as they picked up the pace of their game. It wasn't long before they broke through Hitchin's defence and scored two goals. Comets kept the pressure on and along with some scrappy defence from Hitchin 'A' they scored 2 more goals. Hitchin 'A' put in a little extra effort, with midfield making some very accurate passes allowing 2 more goals to be scored. Half time: Hitchin 'A' 6 - 5 Comets Hitchin 'A' were a little unsettled in the 3rd quarter and could feel the game slipping away. Comets were on a charge and scored to equalise 6-6. Hitchin 'A' replied with a goal to keep the upper hand. Comets then managed to fire one past Martin with a shot from the restrainer line to equalise again. It was all to play for going into the 4th quarter at 7-7. Both teams had equal possession and the experience of Hitchin 'A' put them ahead again when they scored first.With a lot of enthusiasm from both teams spirits began to run a little high, but Hitchin 'A' took control and scored another goal. Comets picked up a late goal just before the final whistle. This was a close game which could have gone either way but Hitchin 'A' managed to keep the Comets at bay with some great goal keeping (11 on target saves) and some very solid team work.
