Final Score: Hitchin 'A' 10 - 6 Northampton

Hitchin 'A' had another good turnout this week for the return match against Northampton .Both teams are fighting it out at the top of their respective leagues and they both wanted to secure the win today, so everyone was fired up. Unfortunately, Hitchin 'A' lost their main goalie in the first 2 mins of the match. Whilst contesting a ground ball he took a big hit to the upper body, which snapped his head round and he went down complaining of pains in his neck and spine. The match was then held up for 20 mins whilst the ambulance crew saw to him and took him to hospital. Hitchins' other goalie quickly stepped in along with a new referee, as their main referee had to go to hospital with the Hitchin player as she is married to him!

A lacrosse match did finally break out after the ambulance left. The loss of their goalie made Hitchin 'A' spring into action and they started to score goals from the outset, with 3 coming in the 1st qtr. Northampton managed to reply with 1 goal before qtr time. Spirits began to run a little high on the Northampton team after Hitchin put in another 3 goals to their 1 in the 2nd qtr. The referee had to call a time out to speak to the Captain and warn Northampton about their language and back chat to the ref. The qtr ended with 6 - 2 to Hitchin 'A'.

During the 3rd qtr Hitchin 'A' put in 3 more goals and Northampton scored 2 of their own. Once again there was a referee's time out in this qtr to talk to the captain as Northampton were becoming very high spirited again, with a lot of disgreements with the official. After a stern talking to by their captain Northampton settled down and began to fight back in the 4th qtr. They were passing the ball and running at the Hitchin 'A' defence and they scored 2 more goals. Hitchin 'A' remained focussed and Gary put the winning goal in the back of the net just before the final whistle. Hitchin 'A' had a lot of support on the side lines, for the last qtr from their 1st team who had just won their match. Hazel phoned to report that Martin the goalie had severe whiplash and was just being release from hospital as the winning goal was scored and the cheering could be heard all the way over at the local hospital.

Thanks go to Gerry for stepping in as referee this week.

Well done to both teams this week, with Hitchin 'A' taking full advantage of their home match against Northampton and another vital win in their bid for the league. A quote from their goalie 'thanks for winning lads, it doesn't make the pain go away but it makes it a little more bearable'
