Final Score: Canterbury 6 - 23 Hitchin 'A' On a day when the wind was gusting across the Kent countryside, Hitchin 'A' travelled to Canterbury. Playing conditions were not ideal when Hitchin arrived, there was a strong wind blowing across the meadow like pitch, which didn't have any markings. However, after apologising, the Canterbury Captain and the referee managed to mark out a pitch using flag posts, kit bags and road cones! Hitchin 'A' took early control of this game, scoring 6 goals in the 1st quarter, with Canterbury unable to reply. Hitchin 'A' continued their control in the 2nd quarter by scoring another 3 goals and having several shots saved. Canterbury managed to gain possession for a short time and scored 2 goals of their own. In the 3rd quarter Hitchin 'A' took full advantage of their 9 - 2 lead, when they got the 'bit between their teeth' as they put away another 7 goals. Canterbury scored 2 of their own, the 1st one came from a fast break. A Canterbury pass hit Rich on the arm, bounced off his chest and into the goal giving them their 4th goal. Rich held up his hands and bravely claimed the own goal. This drew loud cheers from the Canterbury spectators and subs as they urged their team on. As they went into the final quarter Hitchin 'A' gave Canterbury a sharp lesson in cutting and feeding as they nailed home 7 more goals. Team spirit kept Canterbury going and they were rewarded with 2 more goals of their own but it was too late as Hitchin 'A' had already secured the win. Hitchin 'A' praised the Canterbury goalie as he saved at least 7 or 8 on target shots. Canterbury have recently lost a few of their more experienced players and now find themselves with a large squad of new enthusiastic players who will only improve as they play more matches. They are good natured, have a great team spirit and play a good clean game of lacrosse. Players: Martin (GK), Giles, Chris, Rich (OG), Elliot, Jonny - 1, Simon - 1, Andy - 2, Tom - 2, Gary - 9, Mike - 4, Ray - 4 |
