Final Score: Hatch End 7 - 5 Hitchin Sprites Sprites were a little slow to get into this match and their sloppy passes allowed Hatch End to score their first 2 goals in quick succession. Shortly after there was a stoppage as a Sprites player was tripped during a fast break, Sandra went down hard on her right shoulder and had to retire from the match injured. With Gill making a great run down the wing from defence to move the ball forward, Sprites got their act together and replied with their first goal. Two more goals from the Hitchin girls came shortly after. Hatch End were a little rattled, so they put the pressure on with some very physical play and they scored 2 more goals just before half time. Half time: Hatch End 4 - 3 Sprites Sprites were fired up for the second half and came out fighting, but Hatch End resorted to more physical play and flooded their defence zone. Another Sprites player was brought down just outside the crease, Fran then had to retire from the match with a rib injury. Both teams had equal possession for the rest of the half. Sprites lost another player, Ellie, to a head injury. A Hatch End player collided with her leaving Ellie with a nice big bump on her head and seeing stars. Hitchin went on to score 2 more goals and Hatch End put in 3 more. Hitchin Sprites put up a good fight in some very trying conditions this week, due to poor observations by the officials and several injuries.
